Short-Term Rent Assistance to Tide You Over

In times of financial crisis, there's nothing like getting government help to cover your rent!

Even if you work hard to ensure that you pay your rent on time, there's always the possibility of not having enough money because of an emergency that demanded your attention.  If hospitalization bills or car repair fees suddenly get in the way of your timely rent payments, you can actually apply for aid that will help you recover from an unforeseen economic backlash and prevent you from getting kicked out of your apartment.

Short-term rental assistance programs are offered in most states, although qualification criteria and other policies for the program will differ from one state to the next.  In any case, the aim is to help a family or a household pay their monthly rent while riding through a financial crisis, and in the end, enabling those in need to regain a foothold in their finances.

Although the assistance lasts only for a limited period (one to six months), it is often enough to help a household avoid eviction or bigger financial ruin in the long run.  Some states offer hotel vouchers or mortgage assistance, although the form of aid will usually vary, depending on your state.

To find out more about what your local government can offer, it's best to check first with your state's Social Services Department.  If they can't offer you more information, you might want to make inquiries at your local housing program or with the welfare office.  Just remember that when you really need the help, your local government will do what it can to help you get through the toughest times.
